I wonder why lots of people still don't connect food to their health. I mean, I just don't get it. What you eat is so critically important to your health that it's crazy why people will even doubt that simple and universal truth. You see, your health as a diabetic rests heavily on what you eat. No the diet does not cure, but it can worsen your condition if you don't pay attention; and it can help your treatment and healing process if you are consistent about it.

Because you have never eaten some of these things before, first sight will probably make you suppose that you won't life them. I suggest that you wait until you have tried the diabetes diet for a couple of days first, then tell me if you like the food or not.

See your diabetes diet not as a pain in the neck, but as a blessing. The doctor has found out why you have been ill all this time, and had prescribed that you go easy on some foods, and indulge in others for your own health. You should be grateful, not gloomy.

It does not matter how much you dislike the diabetes diet, you don't have much of a choice in the matter if you want to stay alive. I suggest you begin to buy your new stock of foods, and that you begin to love them too. That oughtn't to be a lot of trouble, is it?

I love homemade cottage cheese. I make it all the time, and the whole family enjoys it together. These types of foods and ingredients are eligible for you in your diabetic diet menu.

Whatever you do as a diabetic, you cannot be guilty of chronic overeating. This is what got you sick in the first place; the doctor ought to have told you by now, don't eat too much. Eat small from time to time; say about three to four meals a day. Stay healthy in spite of the disease.

Then break them down into days of the week and meals of the day. And when you cook make a feast of each meal! It doesn't all have to end because you can't ever eat a king's burger.

Think of your diabetes diet this way: you eating pretty much the same things that you used to eat, only with more of the fruits and vegetables, and less of the carbohydrate and oils.

The idea behind a diabetes diet is for you to eat foods that your metabolism can handle in spite of the condition. What you need to is to find out which foods your system cannot metabolize keep away from those ones. Then, you should eat the foods that your system has no trouble taking care of.

How could you tell if your dog might possibly have diabetes? In the wide majority of cases, it is not very common for younger dogs to contract diabetes, but if your pet is older than 4 years old and is exhibiting other symptoms, then the possibility for diabetes could be a real one. Diabetes in dogs is quite a bit more common in females. Many of a dog's symptoms are much like those of diabetes in humans.

Symptoms for Dogs that have Diabetes

* Canine diabetes can begin with an out of shape, obese dog. This is not always true though; in some breeds it can be in the gene pool. Being obese can be a dangerous sign though.

* Diabetes typically happens in dogs close to the ages of 7 to 9.

* With bigger dogs there is more of a possibility to get diabetes than there is with a littler breed.

* Watch for unending thirst. If this occurs, do not try to limit your dog's water intake. This is important because your dog will require all the water it wants to help keep from getting dehydrated.

* Drinking so much means he/she will need to use the bathroom more often. Your dog, the one you've worked so hard to house train so well could start having accidents more often on your carpet. Why? They are not used to transporting so much water in their bladder. Much like the chicken and the egg, and the debate of which arrived first, the need for water or the need to urinate has been debated both ways.

* Your dog may begin dropping weight quickly and unusually, even though she is eating more and could start moving slowly and showing signs of being worn out, acting very fatigued.

* Your dog may start losing their eyesight, having issues seeing.

Preventing diabetes in your dog:

1. If you see your dog beginning to gain weight, or if they are already overweight, lower the number of carbohydrates they consume. Yes, much like humans, a large number of carbohydrates add to to weight gain, which adds to the likelihood of diabetes. Many common dog foods have ingredients that include as much as 98% carbohydrates. Read the food labels and learn as much information as you can about your dog breed to make sure that he is getting the correct amount of nutrients. Making the switch to a healthier dog food can be an enormous step towards the right direction.

2. Get plenty of exercise! A lot of dogs get diabetes that could be completely avoided if they had kept exercising and not gotten out of shape. This is where you and your family can pitch in, as the dog owners. If your dog stays lazy and out of shape, he can contract diabetes even if he is not a breed that is typically at risk.

As of this writing there is not a cure for diabetes. Work along with your vet to ensure that your dog gets the proper treatment and the correct medication to continue to have a normal life. Sometimes diabetes will remain all the way through your dog's life course. To prevent diabetes in your dog, do your best to keep your dog's weight at the right level, get him abundant exercise, and give your dog its medication on a regular basis along with adequate water.

The stereotype of a person with type 2 diabetes is someone who is overweight, leading a sedentary lifestyle and eating an unhealthy diet. There is certainly a strong link between diabetes and obesity, but 20% of people with type 2 diabetes are regarded as leading healthy lifestyles.

In fact, there are many people with diabetes who haven't been diagnosed due to not realising that they are at risk. People who appear to be totally healthy may actually have internal ('visceral') fat around their vital organs, which increases the likelihood of developing diabetes.

Currently, the NHS spend 3.5 billion on treating diabetes every year. The number of people with diabetes is expected to double over the next 10 years, which means the cost for the health service will spiral even further. Globally, there are already more than 350 million people with the condition. Whilst 10% of those cases are type 1 diabetes, where lifestyle isn't a factor, the remaining 90% are type 2, where things like diet play an important role. There will be 4 million diagnosed cases of diabetes in Britain by 2025, according to the charity Diabetes UK.

Many people who don't consider themselves as being at risk of diabetes don't realise that symptoms such as increased thirst, fatigue and frequent urination could be indicators of the condition. The condition can remain hidden for years until the pancreas is no longer able to produce enough insulin, or in some cases not able to produce any at all. Rising glucose levels will then affect circulation, and the chance of heart attacks, strokes, blindness and amputation increase.

Warnings about diabetes have primarily been targeted at those who are overweight, and some experts believe this has led to the rest of the population being excessively complacent about the disease. There are also concerns that, as the condition has become more common, it has become increasingly normalised, and not something that people worry about.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), more than 220 million people get afflicted with this disease and about 3.4 million died from it. Making it even more difficult, diagnosing this disease is difficult since most people simply dismiss excessive thirst and urination for something else until the disease had made its course in the body. But with proper medication, exercise and a good diet, this disease can be prevented or at the least delayed.

Sugar or glucose is the body's primary source of energy. It helps the body move, digest food, think; it basically keeps us alive. Good as sugar may be for our bodies, too much of the stuff can make us sick and can even kill us. But the body controls it with insulin. Unfortunately, diabetics have trouble making insulin or are unable to use it well which leaves the blood rich in sugar. There are many ways to help treat it though like medications and insulin injections. But simply changing one's lifestyle habits can greatly help in preventing or delaying the symptoms of diabetes. And following a diabetic meal plan is one of those simple changes.

Nutrition plays a major role in treating and preventing diabetes. There are quite a lot of diets for diabetics but none made so much attention than the low glycemic diet. Diabetics can still live a happy normal life. Sacrifices are to be made but everything good thing in life requires that and the payoff is totally worth it.

Diabetes is a disease in which the body of a healthy adult or child cannot process or produce enough insulin. Insulin is an important chemical which helps the body digest sugars and starches and turn them into energy. The symptoms of diabetes can be subtle.

Nearly 18 million people have diabetes in the United States, though many doctors and health professionals feel that that number is actually inaccurate due to the large number of people who have diabetes but have never been diagnosed. Knowing the symptoms of diabetes can help you decide if you need to see a doctor or not for a full diagnosis and treatment. Here are some of the more common symptoms of diabetes:

Excessive Hunger and Thirst: Because diabetes affects how your body digests and handles food, you may actually feel more hungry after a big meal than before you began eating. Thirst may also be increased due to sugar building up in you body. Since your body won't be able to handle the sugar your kidneys will have to work overtime. The increased sugar will leave your body as urination, which may leave you dehydrated and wanting more to drink.

Excessive urination: This is sometimes more difficult to notice because different people do urinate at different rates. The increased thirst of diabetes often leads to increased liquid intake which obviously means more urination. Adults who wet the bed at night unexpectedly could actually be suffering from a form of diabetes and not even realize it.

Excessive Fatigue: When you suffer from diabetes your body is working extra hard to process the food you eat. Your body also is not able to get as much energy from sugar and starches, so it may feel as though you're always run down simply because you are!

Diabetes is a serious disease that can grow worse if not diagnosed early and treated properly. The good news is that diabetes is a disease which doesn't have to kill you. You can live and even thrive with diabetes as long as you take care of yourself with some common sense treatments and actions.
