Tips To Manage Your Diabetes

By Marilyn Millbank

Diabetes has become all too common for American adults in the last few decades. This disease can be frightening, but if you dedicate yourself to becoming healthier and following a few of these tips, you can help keep your diabetes under control and reduce its ill effects.

After years of eating whatever you want, it is time to change that diet. This can be one of the most difficult things to do, but you will be amazed at how good you will feel once you make those necessary changes. Your first step is to cut out the junk and the convenience foods that are heavily processed. These contain high amounts of sugar and harmful chemicals. Most importantly, you want to avoid soda, sugary drinks or too much fruit juice and make water your drink of choice. An occasional treat at a restaurant is probably acceptable, but avoid keeping it in your home.

Keeping that in mind, throw out all of your junk food. It doesn't mean you can't ever have a slice of cake or some ice cream; just don't keep them where they are easily accessible. If you go out to eat, you might have a treat, but if you keep your house loaded up with healthy items only, cheating becomes difficult.

You might think that being diabetic means no more carbohydrates and no more fruit, but this is not necessarily true. Good, healthy whole grain and a limited amount of fruit are generally fine. Vegetables and lean proteins are good choices, but don't go for a really high protein diet, as this also can negatively impact insulin levels. Spend some time with a nutrition expert to make lists of what foods you can eat generally and which ones to limit. Also go online or to your local library and find some new recipes to raise your enthusiasm about your new life changes. Generally, a diabetic-friendly diet is good for everyone, so why not get the whole family on board?

In addition to food control, you also need to create a good exercise plan. It is easiest to do if you are taking part in exercises that you enjoy. Swimming, walking, jogging and basketball are just a few good choices. You might also enjoy working out in a gym, so consider joining a health club. You can find gyms with hours and child care to suit your needs. Consider meeting with friends and making a fitness goal or plan, as it can be easier to exercise with someone else.

Discuss your needs with a professional before starting a program as exercise can affect insulin levels. Typically, though a good program that mixes strength training and aerobics will improve your overall health. It is also a great idea to get your whole family involved in a fitness program. Exercise is good for everyone and can help prevent diabetes. So try to get your children, at least, excited about some form of exercise, especially if it is an activity they can do for years to come.

One unique way to alleviate the effects of diabetes is to take zeolites. Zeolites are a unique mineral with a complex, honeycomb structure that attracts all sorts of dangerous toxins, including radiation and heavy metals, and flushes them out of the body.

Zeolites have been shown to decrease and stabilize blood sugars in diabetics, improving overall health. They are easy to use, as well; simply mix a teaspoon into juice, a smoothie, water or even your morning oatmeal or cereal. For the best benefits, take a teaspoon each day for a month and then just a teaspoon each week after that.

Be sure to discuss these tips and your overall health with a professional. Your body might need other supplements or a different diet plan, so be sure to talk it over with a health expert that you trust.
