Pre Diabetics Can Learn More About The Best Food Choices

By Robbie Bainer

Pre diabetic foods are foods that you should be eating if you are likely to develop type 2 diabetes without making significant changes to your health and weight right now. There are several reasons for this. First, the foods you eat have different reactions within your body. Some foods are digested slower and that leads to your body using the energy from them easily. Other foods are digested so quickly that it causes an immediate spike in your blood sugar, or glucose, levels. These foods are dangerous if you are diabetic because your body cannot react to them.

The second consideration is your weight. By reducing your weight by eating healthier foods, you will improve your health and reduce your chances of developing type 2 diabetes. Plus, healthier foods provide your body with more nutrition.

Best Food Choices?

Okay, so based on the above information, what foods should a pre diabetic eat? The best place to begin is with plant-based products and natural foods. As a pre diabetic you will find that processed foods are the first thing you should stop eating.

A good place to start is by choosing one of several pre diabetes diet plans which contain foods that are good for you. For an all-vegetarian solution, you should try the Dr. Neal D Barnard Diet. The Low Glycemic Index Diet and Dr. Richard Bernstein's Diabetes Diet Solution are all great options to consider. In short, you will want to focus on the following when choosing pre diabetes foods.

* Vegetables of all sorts are generally great options for those who are pre diabetic. Vegetables, especially in raw form provide the body with the nutrients it needs.

* Certain fruits are very good for you, such as strawberries, blueberries and raspberries. They are lower in sugar than other fruits. Fruits such as bananas are higher in sugar content and could, if eaten too much, raise your blood sugar levels.

* Cut out the high carb foods. Unfortunately some of the meals that we make every day are actually very high in carbs. Examples are pasta, rice and white bread. These are not good food choices for a pre diabetic and should be avoided if you want to maintain a normal blood sugar level.

* High sugar foods are also a bad solution. These, too, cause a burst of sugar in the blood and that can be dangerous.

Again, if you need to lose weight and protect yourself from becoming a type 2 diabetic than you want to begin eating the pre diabetic foods that we talked about above. Do some research to find the best plan for you.
